Cities of Lahti and Lappeenranta launched a project called Eco-Efficient Energy Service. The new service will enable property-owners and citizens to compare different energy solutions, with different indicators for energy production, such as cost, pay-back time and saved CO2 emissions and find the best solution for them.
The web-based service can be used by private people, large property-owners and for example energy designers and other professionals. Service will be in use in Lahti, Nastola and Lappeenranta from autumn of 2016.
- This service will help property-owners to make environmentally friendly, and at the same time economically reasonable decisions, to optimize the impacts of their energy renovation”, says Development Manager Markku Mäki-Hokkonen from Wirma Lappeenranta Ltd.
Bionova Ltd. was chosen as service partner for energy service, based on a public tender. Bionova is known for user-friendly web services for buildings – energy and lifecycle assessment and profitability calculations. Bionova’s services are used already in ten countries.
Motiva Ltd. is another partner in the Eco-Efficient Energy Services project. Motiva is an affiliated Governmental agency, which provides companies, public sector and consumers information and solutions about resource efficient and sustainable choices. In this project Motiva is responsible for service pre-launch, and also supports spreading of the service to other cities. Motiva also coordinates national consumer energy advisory services.
A questionnaire for single-family-house dwellers in the Lahti region in 2014 revealed interest towards energy effiency and sustainable energy solutions. Over 60% of the respondents were interested in improving their property. Especially information, how to use solar power, was seen interesting.
Energy service, which will be free for users, is mostly funded by European development fund. On this funding period of 2014-2020 a quarter of all funding is channeled to low-carbon projects. This project and the developed energy service will help ambitious green goals of Lahti and Lappeenranta, and support the shift towards sustainable energy.
